Users can view the Challenge dialog in the event they forget their password or are unable to log into their machine. This dialog is launched when a user clicks the Challenge button displayed on their Pre-boot on Authentication (POA) login screen.
The workflow below describes the sequence of events from the time a user obtains a challenge code, calls an AlertBoot Administrator for assistance, receives a response, then logs in successfully, and views the forgotten password.
The user boots up the system and views the Pre-boot on Authentication (POA) login screen.
The user then clicks Challenge on the POA login screen.
The Challenge dialog is displayed.
The Challenge code is displayed for 15 minutes.
The users enter the user name in the User name field.
The user clicks Next to go to the next screen.
The user is prompted to enter the Response code.
The user calls AlertBoot Support
and ask an Administrator for assistance.
The Administrator will login and enter user details, including Challenge code.
The Administrator should then
verify if the user knows the login password or needs it to be displayed
at the end of the recovery process.
If password is known,
the Administrator selects Boot client
without user logon, from the Select
an action drop-down menu.
If the password is not
known, the Administrator selects Boot
client with user logon from the
Select an action drop-down menu.
If Boot
client with user logon is selected, the Administrator checks the
Show user password check box,
to enable the password to be revealed to the user at the end of the recovery
process. (This check box is disabled for the Boot
client without logon option.)
The Administrator should click on Get Response Code.
The Response code is displayed to the Administrator.
The next screen is displayed to the Administrator if the Show user password check box was checked.
The Administrator should:
Select No, continue booting to continue booting the user's machine, and click OK.
Select Yes, show password to display the password to the user, as shown in the screen in step 12c. Then, click OK.
The Administrator provides the Response code to the user.
The user enters the response code in the Challenge dialog and clicks on OK.
The user's machine is booted.
If the user knows the login password and did not ask the Administrator for the password, the machine boots-up and displays the Windows login screen, as below:
The user can login and proceed with work.
If the user does not know the login password and asked the Administrator for the password, the Change Password screen is displayed on boot-up, as below:
The old password is reset and automatically populated, and the user needs to enter a new password (and confirm it) and click OK.
If the Administrator had previously checked the Show user password check box, the user's machine boots-up and displays the password, as below:
The user can note the password for future use.
